    Hybrid Demi-Human

The Hybrid Demi-Human group rose to prominence following their participation in the Flowing Feast event in 2019, where they collaborated with Taiwan's LuxuryLogico mechanical teacher team on stage design, resulting in a groundbreaking success. Their music creation style is rooted in Techno, with sound concepts sampled from a shipyard in Kaohsiung. Sounds of metal work, along with elements of Taiwanese traditional opera and musical instruments are part of their music. Through a blend of DJ sampling, live musical instrument performances, and drumming, complemented by abstract VJ imagery steeped in Tai Chi and Taiwanese symbolism, the performances explore the dichotomy between darkness and light and the perpetual cycle of good and evil. They also offers a subversive reinterpretation of Taiwanese traditional art. Hybrid Demi-Human's creative focus lies in fusing Western electronic music with the rich tapestry of Taiwanese culture rooted in the East. This innovative performance style strives to communicate to the audience that, akin to the harmony found in Tai Chi where yin and yang interact seamlessly, the merging of Eastern and Western influences is also achievable.

    TAI Body Theatre

TAI Body Theatre was founded in 2013 by Truku choreographer Watan Tusi. In its early days, the dance company utilized an iron-clad hut situated under the Nongbing Bridge in Hualien City for rehearsals. It served as an experimental space to explore new body vocabulary inspired by indigenous cultures.

“TAI”, originating from the Truku language, means “to see” or “to observe”. This selected term signifies Watan's gaze and contemplation of traditional indigenous culture, artistic director Watan pondered the following question: “In addition to traditional rituals or tourist performances, are there any new possibilities for indigenous music and dance?”

Since 2013, Watan has found inspiration in the sound of trains as they traverse rails and the rhythmic movement of his feet. Gradually, he has discovered the profound connection between the movement of his feet and the earth beneath them. So far, he has meticulously documented over 80 styles of foot-scripts. Through each process of creative deconstruction and reorganization, novel bodily expressions and dance forms have emerged. The dance troupe employs traditional ritual music and dance as fundamental physical training for its members. Body movements then evolve from the TAI concept and its intricate foot-scripts. The performances by TAI Body Theatre encompass a wide range of styles. They delve into themes ranging from indigenous literature to the intertwining of body and music, as well as contemporary life and environmental conflicts within indigenous communities. The troupe has graced art festivals worldwide, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the UK; the Jogja International Performing Arts Festival in Indonesia; the Wuzhen Theatre Festival in China; the Delhi International Arts Festival in India, and the YIRRAMBOI Festival in Australia. In 2016, the troupe received a nomination for the Taishin Arts Award for their performance Dancing Under the Bridge. They also won two first prizes at the Pulima Art Award for their productions “Terrace on the Hill” and “Weaving on the Moon”.

    DUNGI SAPOR

Dungi Sapor is a member of the Amis people, hailing from Hualien in eastern Taiwan. At the age of 18, she started her DJing journey in a college club, profoundly influenced by Enigma's Return to Innocence after encountering it during a course on intellectual property. This experience sparked her curiosity, leading her to ponder the question, “Why hasn't there been any integration between electronic and indigenous music?” She began to experiment with using electronic music as the backdrop and inviting tribal elders to sing and reinterpret traditional melodies. I Ho Yan became the first significant and successful single in her career. It was even used as halftime music during an NBA G League game. Dungi is dedicated to discovering avenues for bridging traditional and contemporary culture. Despite encountering unseen doubts, she never wavered in remembering her roots and identity. She has journeyed across the globe to both educate herself and promote her music. By engaging in numerous exchanges with diverse cultures, she fosters an international dialogue, hoping to facilitate a deeper integration of cultures across generations.

Through this journey, he has gradually accumulated cultural fragments and memories imbued with the beauty of death song singing. The music group was established in 2016. Feng-Chung-Teng (lit. “lantern in the wind”) symbolizes the lingering warmth of a departed individual. It also represents the guiding flame that draws the souls of the departed, led by the melody of the death song. The Feng-Chung-Teng Spirit Guiding Group preserves ancient and classical movements, as well as classic poetry. Its connotations, however, have been unified and modified by Lin Zong-fan. The theater's director, Lin Yong-chih, along with his team of young puppeteers, has sensed the rapid decline of Taiwan's traditional arts. Continuing the tradition has not been easy; however, the theater is dedicated to nurturing and perpetuating the exquisite old-time puppet show culture. The hope is that when the world sees Taiwan, it will also see the beauty and richness of puppet shows. The Taipei Puppet Theater has always maintained that for a stellar performance, both front-stage actors and back-stage musicians are indispensable. Years of rigorous training have elevated the theater to become the sole traditional theater in Taiwan boasting a fully equipped performance staff. For 13 consecutive years, the theater has been selected as Taiwan Top Performing Arts Group. Having performed over 600 times across the US, Europe, and Asia, the theater's shows have garnered widespread acclaim. Audiences have not only indulged in the audio-visual feast but have also received an introduction into Taiwan's rich and vibrant cultural heritage. From Art for People to Art with People.

Les Petits Choses Production is a performing arts cooperative comprised of 17 creators. They are dedicated to reinventing and creating value in contemporary art and culture experience education. Through open participatory art practices, the troupe experiments within unconventional cultural and performance spaces. By collaborating with the public, they aim to establish more sustainable support networks for the arts. In 2020, Les Petits Choses Production was chosen as the representative team for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival: Taiwan Season by the Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Section of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K. For three consecutive years, from 2021 to 2023, the troupe was honored as Taipei City Performing Arts Group of the Year, and in 2024 they were selected as Taiwan Top Performing Arts Group. In 2023, they received the Creative Awards by La Vie magazine.
