Parc de la Villette

This is one of the primary venues of the 2024 Paris Cultural Olympiad. Situated in the 19th arrondissement of Paris (Pont-de-Flandre), it is one of the largest parks in the capital. The park is also among the pioneering cultural institutions to offer multidisciplinary courses. Throughout the year, a diverse array of events are hosted here, ranging from concerts (jazz, world music, electronic, classical, modern, pop, and rock) to contemporary circus shows, exhibitions, theater performances, dance showcases, outdoor cinema screenings, and beyond. Parc de la Villette, designed by architect Bernard Tschumi in 1982, was established on the former site of a slaughterhouse on the outskirts of the city. At that time, the government held a competition for an urban redevelopment project to commemorate the bicentenary of the French Revolution. In the end, Tschumi emerged as the winner with a plan composed of points, lines, and planes. Taking the spirit of fraternity as the starting point, he envisioned creating a liberated space that could serve as a natural haven for all Parisians to unwind.

The Stage

The overall design of the exhibition and performance venue was inspired by joyful moments of gathering, common in Taiwan. Using stage lighting technology, the festive atmosphere of temple events, the warmth of roadside banquets, and the vibrant energy of Taiwan are recreated. The aim is to convey Taiwan’s unique charm and diversity to an international audience, allowing everyone to experience Taiwan's enthusiasm and creativity during the grand event of the Cultural Olympiad.
